Moor Park U9 251 – 3 HCJS U9 254-2
An exciting game was served up with both sides containing players who looked like they could turn into good cricketers in the future. Moor Park batted first, playing some nice shots and running well between the wickets. For HCJS, Henry Summerside claimed two wickets and Thomas Myers one, with Luke Tulacz being unfortunate to not claim any victims despite bowling well.
In reply all of HCJS' batsmen played sensibly and ran well, thanks to some good calling. In the last over, despite leading by 3 runs, a HCJS wicket would have swung the game back Moor Park's way. Despite some fast, hostile bowling, Luke Tulacz defended beautifully although he suffered an almighty scare off the very last ball, when the ball hit the stumps but failed to dislodge the bails!
HCJS "A" 80-2 ( W Summerside 28*, G Butler 20*, W Pearson 13)
RGS Worcester 82 - 8 ( T Williams 2-12, J Nowosielski 2-14)
HCJS were involved in another thrilling game of cricket at a glorious Wyeside, losing by 2 wickets with 7 balls to spare. Batting first, HCJS lost Lennox second ball, and although Pearson hit a quickfire 13, HCJS were 15-2 . However that was the final wicket to fall as both George Butler and Will Summerside batted sensibly to put on an unbeaten 65 for the third wicket, despite being unable to up the run rate towards the end of the innings.
In reply, RGS got off to a fast start helped by some generous bowling and fielding by the HCJS players, still recovering from tea. Jo Nowosielski came on and bowled beautifully with the help of Tom Williams who bowled well from the Broomy Hill end. The game was very even thoughout, with RGS being 46-6 at one stage. However, Griffiths and Cupitt hit some lusty blows and despite the best efforts of the HCJS fielders, RGS crept home with 2 wickets and 8 balls to spare.
HCJS U11 'B' (67-7) lost to RGS Worcester U10 'A' (105-7) by 38 runs
The boys came down to earth with a bump after 3 wins in a row against a strong RGS side. Josh Children was the pick of the bowlers with 3-2, but a lacklustre fielding performance probably allowed the opposition 20 runs too many. Our batting was solid, but lacked the dynamism of some of the opposition hitting. Will McGill top scored with 13* towards the end of the innings, but we never really threatened the target set.
HCJS 'C' 264 RGS 258 (Red Fox rules)
This was an exciting match with a nail-biting finidh, but a complete team effort in the field saved us in the end. We found it hard to score runs against a quick RGS bowling attack, but a strong partnership from Ben Morlidge and captain Oliver Edwards gave us decent total to protect. In the field everyone did their part: a double wicket maiden by Lewis Bateman; tight bowling from Charlie Layton; and catches by Ollie, Charlie and Nathanuelle Price-Fagan. RGS needed 8 runs off the final over, but a direct hit by Truman Lisle on the third ball assured the victory.
HCJS U9 Bs 301-2 vs Moor Park U9 Bs 217-8
HCJS won by 84 runs
This outstanding victory over Moor Park was well-deserved by the HCJS team, after and excellent performance of both accurate bowling and effective batting. Having beaten Moor Park's score in the second over, HCJS continued to clock up the runs, with some excellent hits from Gabriel Preece and Jonathan Snell. Well done to Gabriel and Joe, who scored 27 runs in their 4 overs.
HCJS 88 - 6 ( W Pearson 33, W Summerside 20) St John On The Hill 52 - 7
HCJS made hard work of what should have been a clinical performance. After winning the toss, some poor shot selection saw us at 22 - 2 off 7 overs. Thankfully the in form duo of messers Pearson and Summerside took the score to 75 before departing trying to push the score along. In reply, St Johns tried hard but never really looked likely to overhaul the score, especially after run outs were the cause of 4 of their wickets. 8 players had a bowl with Tom Sayce taking 1-3, Jo Nowosielski 1-4 and Will Pearson 1-5. Josh Children bowled nicely, not conceding a run off his 3 overs. A win is a win though, and you can only beat what is put out in front of you.
HCJS U11'B' (94-2) beat St John's on the Hill U11 'C' (63-8) by 31 runs
The U11 'B' team finished their season with an excellent team performance. A solid start from Cameron Bateman (19) and Ruben Hussey (9) was followed up by some excellent late hitting from Tim Parry-Jones (21*) and Toby Linley-Adams (17*). In reply St John's were quickly in trouble as our fielding performance was outstanding. 5 catches and 3 run outs show how well we did in supporting the bowlers. Everyone bowled two overs and our total never looked like it would be threatened. A great end to a very enjoyable season.
U11 CRICKET TOUR
Hereford Cathedral Junior School enjoyed a successful cricket tour to the North West, returning home with 2 excellent wins. After a trip around Manchester United F.C, the team took on Bolton Boys School. After losing the toss, Bolton made 68 - 7 off 25 overs, thanks to a good bowling display, particularly from Josh Children ( 2 - 1) and Thomas Williams (2 - 7). In reply, HCJS lost 3 early wickets, but a sensible and hard fought partnership of 53 between Tom Sayce (19) and Will Summerside (20) took HCJS to 68 - 3. Despite some calamitous batting where HCJS lost 4 wickets for 0 runs, they still went on to win by 3 wickets.
The following day, they travelled to take on one of the big names in independent school sport, Manchester Grammar School. HCJS were on the back foot at 17 - 2, but a brilliant unbroken partnership of 111 between William Pearson (66 n.o) and Will Summerside (41n.o) propelled the score to 128 -2 off 25 overs. In reply, MGS fought hard all the way but found themselves up against some good bowling by Dan Roberts ( 3 - 13), Pearson ( 2 - 5) and Joe Nowosielski (2 - 21), who were backed up by some outstanding ground fielding. MGS fell 36 runs short of victory on 92 - 9.
