The Constitution of the PTA states its object to be ‘..to advance the education of the pupils of HCJS by providing and assisting in provision of facilities for education at the school....to foster more extended relationships between the staff, parents and others... and engage in fund raising and/or social activities which support the school' . To this end the PTA is involved in the following:
PTA Events
Fireworks Night The first event in the School Year held at Wyeside (weather permitting!). All the fireworks, lighting, food, beverages and glow toys are provided under the organisation of the PTA.
Pre-Prep Christmas Play The PTA and enlisted parents make and re-make all the costumes for this production and are on hand behind the scenes helping to dress and re-dress the children on the days of the performances.
Pre-Prep Christmas Party The PTA are officially appointed ‘Santa's Little Helpers' and supply the contents of Santa's sack!
Christmas Celebration Volunteers are again recruited through the PTA to supply any costumes required for the performance in the Cathedral.
Christmas Bazaar The PTA Form Reps co-ordinate their year's stall and beg, borrow or steal the stall contents!
Year 3 & 4 Plays The PTA again make, buy and co-ordinate costumes and are on hand back stage with make-up and ‘quick changes'.
Swimming Galas The PTA hold a raffle and sell refreshments at this event.
Junior Disco The PTA organise and chaperone the Spring Term discos held for years 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 in the Dining Hall.
Easter Egg Hunt Pre-prep are all led on a ‘wild egg chase' around the school following a trail of clues, to find an Easter egg each waiting for them when they return to their classroom. Each child in the Easter Bonnet Parade is also given a small chocolate egg.
Year 5 & 6 Plays Another opportunity for the PTA and parents to show their resourcefulness, both in making costumes and behind the scenes during performances.
Sports Days The PTA brave all weather to provide refreshments for the junior sports day - cakes are kindly donated by parents.
Year 6 Leavers' Party The PTA give financial support to the organisers of the party, who are usually the Form Reps for year 6.
Summer Ball A fabulously popular social event, usually held towards the end of the Summer Term.
Annual Donations
Library: The PTA give £500 to the library fund each year. The library stock system is run by two volunteer parents. Workshops: The PTA fund two workshops each year up to a cost of £1,000 Costumes: Those that cannot be made from existing material are financed by the PTA School Requests: From time to time, the school asks the PTA to fund special requests. These have included the new Buttery Art and DT Centre, computers for the library, photography equipment, gym mats and outdoor play equipment.
‘The Committee'
The Committee consists of the Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary; Vice-Chair (all elected to serve a two year office), the Headmaster, two teacher representatives and a Form Representative for each class.
The full Committee meet in the evening at least twice a term to discuss and organise forthcoming events. Additionally, Form Reps meet with the Headmaster once a term to share information and concerns of a non-academic nature e.g. lost property, swimming arrangements, school bus routes etc.
The current Committee is working on some other projects, namely:
The modernisation of the school's art facilities. To hold a family event each term - the Autumn Term currently has the Fireworks night which is so popular, the committee feel a similar kind of event could be held in the Spring and Summer terms.
Any parent can help the PTA, without having to commit to being on the Committee and many are recruited by Form Reps to support events such as the Christmas Bazaar, costume making, Sports Day etc.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP IN ANY WAY, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR FORM REP OR THE PTA CHAIRMAN
